Jay Carey (Carol), 1st. Vice District Governor

Lion Jay Carey became a member of the Washington Court House Lions Club in June, 1991, when he was invited to join the club by Lion Robert Willis. He has served his club as Assistant Secretary in 1997-98, Treasurer in 1998-2001. Jay was elected as a Vice President in 2001 and as club President for the year 2002-2003.

 

Lion Jay has servedas Chairman of Zone 2 under three District Governors and has been a member of theDistrict 13J Cabinet since 2001. In 2003-04 he served as District Membership Chairman and 13-J Representative on the Ohio Lions Membership Committee. In 2004-05 he served as Deputy District Governor. At the 2005 Ohio Lions Convention Lion Jay was presented with two awards: the Council Chairman's Award of Excellence and the International President's Award.

 

Lion Jay is a graduate of New Vienna High School and The Ohio State University. While at OSU he earned a degree in agricultural education. He has been an independent insurance agent since 1988 in Washington Court House. He is now retired.

Jay has been a member of Dalton Lodge #578 of the Free and Accepted Masons since 1966. He served as Worshipful Master of the lodge in 1995 & 1996. Lion Jay is a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Aladdin Shrine Temple and the Washington Shrine Club. He has served as Treasurer since March 2003. Lion Jay is also a founding board member of the local community concert association.. He has served as President of the Community Concert Association for several years.

 

He is married to Carol, who is Executive Director of American Red Cross in Fayette County. Lion Jay and Carol have two children and four grandchildren, all living in the Columbus area.

It should be noted that Lion Jay is one of those people who bleed scarlet and gray every year during football season.
